NICHOLAS LOH
Nicholas is no stranger to the local music scene and is sought after as a soloist, collaborator and educator. He graduated in 2014 from New England Conservatory with a Masters in piano performance, specialising in contemporary piano repertoire under the guidance of Stephen Drury. Nicholas has also worked with other leading pianists in the field including Max Levinson, Corey Hamm and Nino Jvania. Prior to this, Nicholas obtained his Bachelor of Music from the University of Birmingham (UK) and his Post-graduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (Singapore). Notable past teachers include Jap Boen Pin, Dennis Lee and Toh Chee Hung.
A versatile performer and new music enthusiast, Nicholas believes that new music is an experience that connects the novel with the familiar, and strives to make new music an experience that can connect with audiences of all backgrounds. His solo recitals in the Singapore Piano Festival 2009 (Young Virtuoso Series) and the Esplanade Spectrum series 2015 have featured exclusively contemporary repertoire, including works by local Singapore composers. Nicholas has worked and continues to work extensively with young and upcoming musicians as a collaborative pianist. His collaborations include performances with numerous local and international musicians as well as groups such as The Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore (TPO), Woodwind Quintet EDQ, the Boston Young Composers Ensemble (BYCE) and Discovery Ensemble. Nicholas is also a Baritone and has sung in various chamber choirs including the Birmingham University Singers and the NEC Chamber Singers. He has also been singing with The Philharmonic Chamber Choir Singapore (TPCC) since 2006. |
