Atelier Flute Ensemble (Johor, MALAYSIA)
Atelier Flute Ensemble: A Journey of Passion and Community
Atelier Flute Ensemble (AFE) boasts a rich history that began in 1989 taking root in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Founded by Mr. Kok Kian Wah alongside his fellow Foon Yew High School juniors, it started as a small flute choir with just 7-8 members, all part of the school's marching band. This initial chapter, however, came to a close in 1991 as student members pursued studies abroad. Fast forward to 2010, the spirit of AFE was rekindled. Four original members reunited, embarking on a new chapter and transforming the group into a nurturing ‘flute workshop’ for aspiring flutists in the Johor Bahru community. This is where the "Atelier" in their name took root. We celebrate flute music with open arms, inviting both amateur and professional players from Johor Bahru to join our ranks. Today, the ensemble thrives with around 20 active members, each bringing their unique talents and passion for the flute. Despite diverse professional backgrounds and no formal musical training, our love for the instrument binds us together as a musical family. We are currently under the baton of our musical director Mr. Koh Yew Kia, he was the formal principal flutist of Evegreen Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan), and the member of Joueurs de Flûte Ensemble 吹笛人室內樂團 (Taiwan). AFE's dedication extends beyond weekly rehearsals. We actively organize recitals and concerts throughout the year, offering a platform and sharing our love for music with the Johor Bahru community and beyond. |
